Parochial Church Council (PCC) Charity

The PCC of Holy Trinity with St Mary is the governing body of the parish made up of clergy members and lay members. Together they are responsible for the overall wellbeing, practical as well as spiritual, of their church, the church members, and the church buildings. The PCC also has a duty to promote the mission of the church within the wider community.

Membership

Members of the PCC are either ex officio (Clergy, Churchwardens and Deanery Synod representatives) or elected each April at an Annual Meeting of the Parochial Church Council in accordance with the Church Representation Rules. Elected members and Deanery Synod Representatives serve initially for three years.

COMMITTEES

The PCC operates through the following committees, which meet between full PCC meetings.

Standing Committee Chair: Canon Simon Butler (Rector)

This is the only committee required by law. It has power to transact the business of the PCC between its meetings, subject to any directions given by the PCC. The Standing Committee sets the agenda for PCC meetings.

Finance Committee Chair: Venetia Howes

Oversees the general financial dimension of the work of Holy Trinity with St. Mary by monitoring income and expenditure, budgeting and coordinating the annual review of the Christian Stewardship of money through planned giving.

Children & Young People Committee Chair: David Matumbo

Supports the youth leaders in their work with the children and young people of the parish, aided by the Family and Children’s Worker and the Safeguarding Officer.

Buildings Committee Chair: Vacancy Property Manager: Rob Munro

Attends to matters relating to the improvement and maintenance of Holy Trinity and St Mary’s churches, the Trinity Centre, Parish Office and clergy housing.

JOINT COUNCIL

Guildford Methodist Church (GMC) joined with St Mary’s Church (SM) on 1 September 2013. Since then, a pattern of services has been worked out and a legal Sharing Agreement was signed on 6 July 2014 regarding the use of St Mary’s. For this agreement to be effective, there is a Joint Council comprising seven members from GMC and seven from the parish. Their role is to maintain and develop the fabric and use of St Mary’s building
